Rasa Weber, an experimental designer based in Zurich and Berlin, focuses on narrative-driven, ecologically critical design. She is a research associate at Zurich University of the Arts and Humboldt University's "Matters of Activity" cluster. Her practice-based PhD, "SymbiOcean", explores artificial reefs and Sympoïetic Design, fostering multispecies spaces. She merges design, marine biology, and anthropology. Weber also teaches internationally, advancing ecological design discourse.
In her thesis Symbiocean (supervised by Prof. Dr. Karmen Franinović, ZHdK and Prof. Dr. Karin Harrasser, University of the Arts Linz) she researches on the creation of artificial reefs and their sympoïetic potential for the ecological formation of marine habitats. At the intersection of marine biology, anthropology and design, in collaboration with coastal communities, she explores the notion of Interspecies Architecture with her practice-based and theoretical research on sympoïetic design processes with human, animal and microbial actors in the ocean.
